Addressing the Gaps in LGBTQ+ Healthcare

2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse communities experience higher rates of unmet medical needs compared to cis gender and heterosexual people. This can be due to discrimination/outdated information from healthcare providers/settings, inaccessibility, medical gaslighting, exclusionary spaces/practices, and more. Unmet needs include preventative health care screenings, primary care, mental health support, and access to gender affirming care.

A Safe Space for LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent Healthcare

Being both queer and neurodiverse, I am passionate about trying to close this gap in our healthcare system. Everyone deserves a space where they can talk about all aspects of their health without judgement, discuss different treatment approaches and options, ask questions, and feel empowered in their own health.

Patients commonly seek support for:

Gender Affirming Care

Currently, not all hormones/medications for gender affirming care are in the scope of practice for Naturopathic Doctors in BC; but this doesn’t mean I can’t support your transition in other ways.

  • Conversations on and considerations for hormonal transitions
  • Managing medication/HRT side effects
  • Supporting any co-occurring health conditions
  • Surgery preparation and recovery support
  • Medication-supplement interactions

If you are curious about how I can support you and your unique health care needs I offer free 15-minute meet and greet calls/videos to see if working together is the right fit.

FAQ’s

Gender-affirming healthcare refers to medical and supportive care that respects and supports a person’s gender identity and expression. This may include hormone-related discussions, mental health support, health screening recommendations, surgical preparation and recovery support, and collaborative care with other healthcare providers.

Trauma-informed healthcare recognizes that past experiences can affect how people interact with healthcare systems. Trauma-informed practitioners strive to create safe, collaborative, respectful environments where patients feel heard, empowered, and in control of their healthcare decisions.
